Dear Editor, I wanted to take a moment to thank the Veterans and those who put together the Memorial Day Ceremonies which were held in the County on Memorial Day. They were very inspirational and uplifting. I have sometimes felt that society has forgotten what Memorial Day is about. We get lost in the camping and picnics and family gatherings which happen on this day that seems to mark the beginning of summer activities for everyone and lose sight of the meaning of the day itself. It is a time to remember those who have given their lives in service of their country in order that we...

Betty Lou Randall Tribute
How lucky we were to have ever known Betty Lou and I’m sure I speak for legions of high school kids who remember the bus trips we took with Betty Lou and Dick. The hours of time they spent with us; talking, laughing and making sure we never got out of line. I think we learned as much from them as examples and their general caring as we did from our teacher’s and parents. Betty Lou’s sense of style, her contagious laugh and her fingernails will be missed. I always wanted Betty Lou fingernails and I only achieved it once for just a few days. I couldn’t maintain them. ...

Delegate Likes Brown
Dear Editor, Having the honor to serve as a Republican delegate to this year’s convention, I was shocked to see what is happening in the political environment. Like Sen. Bennett said, “The environment right now is toxic.” I was dismayed that the delegates from District 53 came close to replacing one of the best representatives this district has ever had. Mel Brown has been a strong voice for Summit, Rich, Daggett, Wasatch and Morgan in the four years he has represented us. Even in the years he represented district 72 in Midvale, he worked for rural counties. His opponent, who is prob...

Reader Wants Pool in Morgan County
I recently received edition of The Morgan County News with an article about putting a pool in. I think this is a good idea. It would be a good source for exercise and fun. I suggest making a swimming hole outside that people could skate on in the winter. Laura Anderson Mountain Green Editors Note: This item will likely be voted upon by the County Council on June 1, 2010. See article “Pool Goes Down the Drain” in The Morgan County News on page 5 of the May 7 edition for more information.

Writer Concerned With Council Members Finances
Dear Editor, The article “Morgan candidate beset by financial troubles” written in the Standard-Examiner April 29, 2010, reported a Morgan County councilman who is running for county attorney has filed for personal bankruptcy, and lists unpaid state and federal taxes among his liabilities. Utah has the highest rate of bankruptcy in the United States of America. The article states he was embarrassed that he had to file. He states “he is a candidate in a highly contested election”. Jann Farris is the residing Morgan County Attorney. This position must have a candidate who will re...

Lost Dog Returns Home, Thanks To Many
on April 2, I lost a treasured friend, my dog, a white female heeler near the Milton Park. I have spent many days since then driving back and forth to Milton from my home in Mountain Green in hopes of finding her and bringing her home again. During this time, my life has been greatly enriched by the many kindnesses of others. I owe a debt of gratitude to those people whose doors I have knocked on…each one showing concern and hope. I extend my gratitude to those who received flyers and unselfishly gave of their time, even in the worst of weather, to help me follow possible leads. Bu...

Against Special Service District
Dear Editor, I am writing this letter in concern over the county establishing a special service district for parks and recreation. From the articles I have read in the newspaper, other printed information, and talking to various people, there are far too many unknowns to make an informed decision. As I understand it, the main push for an SSD is because an SSD is necessary to oversee and fund an aquatic center. Let’s take the SSD first. If created, it would then become a separate entity in the county budget and like all other entities in the county, would seek to increase its budg...

Morgan Student Discusses Morgan Country Building Permits
Dear Editor, For the past three years, my grandparents have been trying to get a building permit from Morgan County on a lot they have. During those three years, they have hired three geological technicians which have all said the lot is safe to build on. But the county still has denied them a building permit. My grandparents are not the only ones to have had the county deny them a building permit on a lot that is safe. I see no reason why the county will not allow them to build on their lot when they have already met all of the qualifications. The fact that concerns me most is that ou...

Why The Constitution Party?
Now is the time that we need to stand up for our U.S. Constitution which in the past has been chipped away at and now is hanging In the balance. The reason we have not been happy with our Presidents from both major parties is because they have belonged to bad organizations yet spoke the things we wanted to hear before being elected (John McCain also belonged ). We must now vote for the honest, moral and informed candidates who understand and want to preserve our checks and balances that the bad organizations want discarded! Please note that Newt Gingrich is positioning himself as a “cons...

Election Trouble?
I would like to thank everyone who signed my signature sheet for being a candidate in the November Elections for Morgan County Council District 5. After I turned in the paperwork to get on the Ballot, I was informed I was in a different voting precinct by Teresa Lake, the Morgan County Deputy Clerk. I talked to Teresa Lake on several occasions about what voting precinct I was in, and each time I was told I was in District 5. I do not know whether this was done intentionally, but it is interesting. Brent Fenstermaker Morgan
